Copper Civil War store card stamped, ” Peter Warmkessel, 8 Duane St., New York” found on the shore of the East River in Brooklyn. From 1862 to 1864 the US Government allowed private businesses to mint their own one or two cent coins due to the hoarding of and subsequent shortage of government coins. Warmkessel ran a saloon out of the building that was also his residence at 8 Duane Street in Manhattan in the early 1860′s.
